The Indiana Dunes State Park Radio Play and Puppet Show

Marshall J. Gardner Center For The Arts

Happy 100th birthday, Indiana parks!

December 11, 2016-– Celebrate Indiana’s Park System’s 100th birthday with Family Folklore Foundation and the Miller Beach Arts & Creative District (MBACD)! MBACD is pleased to host an afternoon of fun, food, and family at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts located at 540 S. Lake Street, Gary/Miller Beach, IN. The Family Folklore Players will perform a lively puppet show with Duneland creatures and an original play, “Heroes’ Quest: the Indiana Dunes State Park”. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children under twelve. The play performance is 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Doors open at 3:00. At intermission enjoy light snacks. There is live music and sound effects performed by Marie Fryar. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children under twelve. This is the Family Folklore Players debut performance of the puppet show, so be sure to bring the kiddies for the fun! This radio play is the third in an original series and it features a life-size time machine that really works! Go back and forth in time meeting nature enthusiasts Abe and Teddy to mention a few! As an oasis from the daily, urban rat race, “Heroes’ Quest: The Indiana Dunes State Park” Radio Play and Puppet Show will transport the audience into an exciting, informative space where outdoor fun at the Dunes abound. Over the course of the play the young Granville clan discovers the true concept of the heroes that Saved the Dunes will be formulated via the inspiring performances of our local community members. There is even a documentary and audio version of the play being produced that will be available in the spring.

The Family Folklore Foundation’s mission is to offer educational opportunities to intergenerational community members using literacy and problem-solving strategies to make the world a better place. Some very important characteristics differentiate “Heroes’ Quest: the Indiana Dunes State Park” from many other plays out on the market today:

  1. It is an all-volunteer run production.
  2. Proceeds go to a multitude of projects dedicated to promoting literacy & arts education in Northwest Indiana.
  3. It is an intergenerational, multicultural play written about Dunes by a homegrown writer.
